Sintra Half Day: Quinta Da Regaleira

Daily Tour 4 hours Availability: 2019-01-06
Largo Vasco da Gama, 2710 Sintra, Portugal Quinta da Regaleira

THIS JOURNEY IS FOR…

People short on time who want to feel the mystery of Sintra and go inside Quinta da Regaleira.

We love Sintra. Like, really LOVE it. But even we can admit It has one big problem. Once you start exploring this enchanting patch of the world, it’s almost impossible to stop, and we know a lot of you don’t have the time to spend days and days exploring every last forest track like we did as kids. Luckily, you still have time to see a mysterious garden and palace, surrounded by metaphor and myth, that many think is even more spectacular than its more famous red-and-yellow cousin. We’re talking about Quinta da Regaleira. Plus with us you’ll get to ride along secret forest paths in our vintage convertible 4x4s and enjoy our sparkling local knowledge (and painfully beautiful faces) as part of the package.

With our jeep we’ll drive by historic palaces (Sintra National Palace, Seteais Palace, Monserrate, Pena Palace) and the 8th-century Moorish Castle, sharing the best legends and facts about each monument before stepping inside the magical Quinta da Regaleira. Afterwards you’ll have worked up an appetite – and we couldn’t let you leave here without tasting Sintra’s own traditional sweet pastry, the “Travesseiro”, with a homemade “Ginjinha” liqueur.

Our half-day journey finishes at 1.30pm. We can drop you in town with restaurant suggestions or back to the train station. If you have the time, combine this with our sunset tapas hike to a secret beach.

Stop one

We’ll pick you up from the train station and head to Quinta da Regaleira for a visit to the palace and gardens, which are filled with mystery, metaphors and underground tunnels.

Stop two

After some free time in the gardens, jump back in the jeep for a drive-by of the many palaces and castles that give Sintra its UNESCO World Heritage label. Say “olá” to the Moorish Castle, Sintra National Palace, Seteais Palace, Monserrate and Pena Palace as we pass by. We’ll share the best legends, stories and facts as we go.

Stop three

You can’t say you’ve visited Portugal until you try our food, so we’ll stop at our favourite lookout to enjoy local tastes with a view. We’ll bring Sintra’s typical sweet “travesseiro” pastry and homemade “ginja” liqueur. Afterwards we’ll drop you back to the train station or in town.

Keep exploring!

How does sunset tapas on a secret beach sound? As this is a half-day journey you can combine it with our afternoon sunset hike and beach wine picnic. That gives you enough time to have lunch and explore the historic town.

Where you’ll be

Just 30-minutes from downtown Lisbon, spent half a day exploring the UNESCO World Heritage landscape of Sintra with us. Bounce along secret forest paths and century-old roads in our convertible vintage jeeps, passing by half a dozen historic palaces and the Moorish Castle. Best of all, we’ll explore the grounds of Quinta da Regaleira together where we’ll share all the best stories, legends and facts.
